I made this work by pressing thick ink on paper using a thick brush with a short brush tip. The character shape is deliberately childish. The poem was written by Kenji Miyazawa (1896-1933), one of the famous Japanese poets and also authors of children’s literature.
His poetry was written in Japanese, of course, but it’s far from the words we use in our daily lives, and it feels fresh to the modern Japanese. At the beginning of this poem, the following scene is described. The sky at dawn, gathering the essences of roses, pyroxenes, and snow, shining brightly and melting the beautiful sapphire-like planet.
