Special exhibition featuring Yan Zhenqing, 顔真卿, in Tokyo

I visited a calligraphy exhibition “Unrivaled Calligraphy: Yan Zhenqing and His Legacy” (from 16 Jan to 24 Feb, 2019) at Tokyo National Museum in Ueno, Tokyo. It was really cold and the museum was unbelievably crowded…

The exhibition features Yan Zhenqing (709–785), one of the most famous Chinese calligraphers as well as a loyal governor of the Tang Dynasty. It also covers historical transition of calligraphy from ancient times to Qing Dynasty with masterpieces by various Chinese calligraphers. Some Japanese masterpieces are also exhibited
